Summer Tennis Classic 2025 - A winner

January was a thrilling month for tennis at the Lorne Country Club! The courts were alive with activity, with members and visitors making the most of the summer season. Highlights inlcluded the Tennis Championships for Singles, the annual Mixed Doubles Round Robin and tennis clinics led by our talented coach, Marvin Barker.

Women’s Singles Championship

In an intense and competitive match, Steph Fry triumphed over Georgie Howson to claim the title. The final scores told the story of a hard-fought battle: 7-5, 0-6, 6-0. Congratulations, Steph!

Men’s Singles Championship

Following a close and entertaining match in the semi-final in which Josh Frydenberg defeated David Sousa 8-5 , Josh prevailed in the final beating Matt Hayward  6-0, 6-2.

Mixed Doubles Round Robin – Saturday, 25th January

This year’s Mixed Doubles Round Robin was a resounding success, with all five courts buzzing as 20 players competed in teams of two over four 8-game sets. A perfect balance of men and women made for a fantastic day of tennis.

  • Sue Cox (26 points)
  • Paul Carr (27 points)

A special thank you to Suzanne Diviny for her exceptional catering. One enthusiastic participant remarked, “Suzanne’s chicken sandwiches were the main reason I signed up!”

Junior Tennis Clinics

Under the guidance of coach Marvin Barker, junior players enjoyed four mornings of tennis clinics from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The clinics were well-attended and fuelled by excitement for the Australian Open, inspiring the next generation of tennis talent.

Here’s to a summer filled with great matches, fun events, and lasting memories at the Lorne Country Club!
